Torch lengh

Hi guys

simple question for you guys
How many of you wish you had a 8 meter lenth tig torch or are you quite happy with 4m and would never need any longer.

8m would be nice to reach into the driveway.

yes I must say 5 m does sound about right.
But alas, lorch only do theres in 4 and 8 meters.

would the 8 meter use a little more gas, not when its running but there is more tube to fill and waist kind of thing, you know what I mean LOL

Having used both. 8 meters any day. What's not in use is sat on pegs next to the set

Yep i love my 8metre torch & earth lead, Also now have 8 metre pedal lead.

a little off topic, But as regards to a gas cooled torch

Is there much differance in size anyway between the wp1700 and the wp2600

aint held a 2600 in my hand yet

I thought you were getting a water cooled torch. The 26s are big compared to the rest as they are... well bigger.

It all depends on what you are welding; if it's tube then smaller the better, if it's plate, box, all 90s then a 26 will be fine

I dont recall saying I was going water cooled??? dont think so anyway.
As I said in a older post, which got a little off track.
I am getting a gas cooled torch for now, want to keep things as simple as possible for now as I have enough to learn just with tiging.

as to tourch size,
I have the opertunalty to get what ever torch I want with my set up,
They have sent me the welder, but are waiting for the torch.
The welder has been priced for the powermaster torch in 8 meters already.
I am kind of thinking, "if most of my welding is NOT going to be done at max amps, why not go for the smaller 1700 size,
As and when I need to bigger amps, I will buy a cheap 2600 second hand KNOWING it will might get burnt out, but as It wont be used offten, who cares.

Dont really want to burn out my new powermaster i Torch on the high amp jobs as its very expensive.

my problem is I can get to see the new powermaster i torch in both 1700 and 2600 before making up my mind.

as they have the lcd display and quite a few bottons on the handle, they may well be the same size handle with only the head size being smaller.

If thats the case, there is little point in getting the smaller one as it aint in real terms smaller at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People have been tigging nicly for years without a LCD torch, sounds like a gimmick to me ?

I would get yourself a flexible head and a selection of back caps.

With a 8 meter torch lead, do you really want to go over to the welder when you can operate it from the torch?????

I am only worried it might be to bulky in the 2600, so might go for the 1700 in the i torch and get a spare simple cheap torch in the bigger 2600

I only switch my machine on, don't go near it again only to switch off, Pedal does it all. Its up to you but i see it as a lot of money spent for something you don't actually need, heck you don't even know if you can tig weld yet by the sound of it, not everyone can do it.

This is very true. Just because you have the all sing all dancing kit doesn't mean you know how to use it.

There are lots and lots of buttons on TIG sets, and to be honest once you have got bored with playing with them, and mastered the art (and it is an art) of TIG welding then you'll find you don't use half of them anywhere near as much. More so on the type of machine you are looking at as it does it al for you.

I do get all your points.
But I don't think your getting mine.

And its this, its the latest New lorch, as a package, it comes with the basic lorch torch.
For a few extra pounds, I can have the new torch.
I am not buying it outright.

To say you only go to yr tig to turn it on and only return to turn it off implys to me that its a older tig set.
I don't make the tig, I am just buying it.

So why not have it, I bet you in only a few years to come, my new tig set will be surpast with much better all Singing all dancing tig sets.
That's just the way of the world.
Go with it or get left behind is the its going.

I dont have any buttons on my Tig machine , AC/DC , amperage setting is a cranked wheel , post gas timer , and a switch to change the torch button to one press on / off or hold button on and release for off , and I dont go back to the machine unless to change amps , would love a pedal but cant fit to the Machine , personally I would save for a pedal, it would give you much more control , you dont have to stop welding to change the amps ! with your multi buttoned torch I would imagine you would have to stop welding to operate it anyway ( thats a guess by the way )

have had a bit of trouble with the car, so will be tied up fixing that for a while.

I might even bring my new lorch over to yours if you fancy a bash with it.

As to the lorch torch, I think you guys are a little confused as to what it does.
Its NOT about using the LED screen and the bottons when welding.
Yes 100% when welding the most you do is stop start and footcontroll the amps.
The torch is asbout using it as a controll panel for when you need to change things.
