I have a topmig 170 turbo, and have a lot of rough construction work to do outdoors with it. Can I convert it to run gasless wire?
I so, what do i need to do?
New liner, tip and I have heard I may need to change the polarity?
not so sure about that model but if you can get away with using gas outdoors just make a wind brake it will give you far better results than gassless wire if not consider other alternatives such as ark welding all you need then is rods and an ark welding unit
I have a load of lightweight gates and a fencing system to build up so windbrakes arent really feasable. I have an arc welder, but its thinwall box section Im using and the arc isnt great for it.
Gasles wire is the best bet as the weld doesnt need to look pretty, just hold well.
Although the topmig 170 is marketed as a gas only machine, you may still be able to use gasless wire if you can somehow reverse the polarity. You'll probably have to fit a 1mm tip as the wire might be 0.9mm.
