The only safety feature is once all excess cable is wrapped around the drill the continued rotation may pull the plug out of the socket and turn the drill off if your lucky

done that a few times drilling through roof joists with a 20mm auger and caught a screw or knot and ripped out of my hand and wound the flex up and snaped it was me or the drill so let go and watched the show

Been lucky,though I’m pretty good controlling the break through bite. Before I had a mag drill,I used to use it working on a scaffold tower for steel erecting.

There are tricks to make it kinda safer to use but honestly I wouldn't trust them by any means, anyways worth to share.
Most drilling operations requires the spindle turning clockwise.
Newton once said that every action gets a reaction equally opposite (kinda quote)
Translated means that if the spindle is spinning clockwise the drill is trying to spin anticlockwise.
So you should grab the auxiliary handle with your left hand, palm facing towards the clockwise direction, locking your left elbow into the pelvis.
Your right hand on the other side have to grab the main grip, and once again the palm facing clockwise.
The switch needs to be activated with the smallest fingertip surface as possible.
Those actions should in case of a kickback lead to both contrast the rotation and having the fingers slipping from the switch shutting down the drill.
That's applicable to other powertools too but it's not reliable 100%

I was watching (from a safe distance) a mate, who's famous for doing stupid stuff, drilling something held by the handle a lil' drill press vice, when the drill grabbed it snatched the workpiece and the vice out of his hand and flung it at him, hitting him squarely in the chest pretty hard, luckily he's a big lardy type of bloke and his natural 'padding' manged to absorb the impact. I'd like to think he learned a lesson there, but Nah...

Evan the little Wolf cubs can catch and don't let go. The switch lock can get a bit sticky and refuse to come off.

I remember punching myself in the face using one of those Wolf Gutbuster drills. No clutch or any safety measures in the one I was using, and when it snatched boy did you know it.

There is another Wolf gut buster that had one hell of a bite. It was 120 psi air driven and had four foot of handle to help stop it chucking you about.

Not knowing what to expect I was stood on the rear wing of a MK 1 Thorneycroft Mighty Antar tank transporter truck , about to drill a series of inch holes so i could fit a new wing that was hanging off the overhead crane . Once test triggering with it out of the pilot hole.. " Wow that sounds a bit of a beast !" .

Two seconds later as I set it to the pilot hole I was chucked off the four foot high wing when the drill bit deep into the pilot for the mounting bracket. Luckily I landed on my feet right next to the benches & table where we had coffee breaks , so I calmly sat down for a few minutes to get myself back together . Then two of us held a handle each and one guy operated the trigger ... for all four mounting holes .
