Pick your storage spot - and return tools there after each use.
Those few seconds/minutes are more than saved by not having to look for them next time.
So while not everything I sue gets quite that treatment, most does, especially at work. I cannot understand those of my colleagues who leave tools where they were last using them (as well as boxes, wrappers, instructions, old parts, spare fasteners etc)

1) no matter what it is, if I find a “thing” that is something to do with another project or toolset, I use the advice handed out by the Spice Girls in 1996/7. Stop right now, thank you very much, go put it with the rest of it.
2) Not got round to it, only thought about it 5 years ago. Notice board with what where. “Riveter bottom shelf in garage”. “Bicycle tools, in bucket by shed door”
3) not fully played with it, iShit in photos, search cat finds cat photos, dog finds dog photos. Christmas etc.
Plan is photo drill, clearly recognise it’s location “add tag”. Months later see if iShit can index search. For that photo
