Tools I hate

A Gunson Colortune, have not see one of those in a while. I have the same one in a drawer, with the Gunson Testune and Gunson timing light. Cannot remember the last time these were used.

I had a very old one that was barely usable and was in Halfrauds when they were selling them all off at £5 so took one of each - ideal for 1950's motorbikes.

I have a set of the blue handled ones, with the interchangeable blades. Absolute rubbish, but then again the ones i have are made by Draper. I have a few sets of the German made ones, no comparison.

Yes Draper, looked ok but the tips break relatively easily - they are flexible but decent ones make jobs so much easier. Classic buy cheap buy twice.

I have a small grease gun with a point on the end, not a hole, ideal for getting into odd places....

My first job on leaving school was in a BMC dealership, there was one of those pointed tips on the air operated grease gun. Someone managed to stab his finger & fill it with grease! As you can imagine, it was quickly removed & an ordinary one fitted.

cheapo picador die cast pulleys now theres even an extra cheap copy called Picardy there even copying the crap and colour them the same as the pucca original tools

The only tool I can think of that I hate and wouldn't allow on any of my jobs, is a "Milwaukee Hole Hawg", 1/2" right angle drill motor. Why they still manufacture this dangerous tool boggles the mind. I can recall a couple of instances years ago where carpenters from our local union were using one of these and got their hand badly crushed between the chuck and the motor housing. Don't have a photo, but they are being sold on ebay; the model number is 1675 if anyone wants to see it.

I like my impact driver, it's a Facom one, and it's actually nice to use. It doesn't matter which way it's turning, you simply put it into the screw head/whatever, put some turning pressure on by hand and make sure it turns all the way to anticlockwise. Then give it a good whack. Keep lefty-loosey hand tight, and keep whacking. It's foolproof.

I've used Teng and sykes pickavant ones, both fine, but neither as nice as the Facom.

The Teng bits are chocolate, though... cheap compared to Facom bits, but I wasted 3 bits each on a single strike!

My cheapo impact is the same, works flawlessly just ask my landrover door hinges

I have a Japenese Yato one of these impact sets - had it years (decades) - 1/2" and 3/8" imapct drivers - and loads of bits.

What it does have is proper JIS cross pint bits that fit - motorbike casings from Japan.

JIS is not Philips or Posidrive. These NO 2 bits all the same but they different.

I was actually looking at one of these to run pipes and cables through joists. I couldn’t justify it as a one off though, maybe that was a lucky escape!

edit: it was an 18v I was looking at and they have a handle that yours doesn’t. Maybe it’s to stop crushing injuries

in the past ive only ever bought branded quality name tools but lately got a bit of cheapo stuff for peanuts and its been half decent . I have a panel spraygun I payed 90 quid for 40 years ago if I use it spend more time cleaning it out than using it bought a 12 quid smaller one god knows what make and it works well easy to clean out on small jobs as well

Not sure if still available in modern form, but tomorrow I'll post a photo of my Milwaukee 1/2" drill motor with angle attachment I use for drilling joists; a much safer option.

I tried using it twice, and it was enough to put me off mig welders forever.
I *still* don't have, or want, one.

Funny you’ve just posted that Mr Egg, a mate of mine bought one at about the same time, it went back to SIP as faulty, they said there was no fault. It was unusable, so went on the shelf until a week ago when he got it out, he got so frustrated with it, he chucked it in the bin & bought an inverter mig. In all it had probably had less than an hours use.

on the rare occasion when the gods are happy and the moon is in the right place you may get a bite on a sheared bolt but more often it’ll just make it worse

This tool i have is so bad i kept it for future generations to marvel at...bought a claw hammer at a sunday market about 10 years ago and when you use it it chips away at the edges at hypersonic speeds too must get some pics up of it
