I've got to put a 90 degree bend in some pieces of 8 mm thick plate and the inside radius of the bend needs to be bout 25 mm. The plate is only about 190 mm wide so not a huge piece. I was going to make a suitable piece of tooling to use in a jig on a hydraulic press. My question is this: If I make the 'male' pressing tool from a suitable piece of bar, do I need to make the 'female' with a radius to suit the outside of the plate or could I just use a piece of very heavy 90 degree angle and let the plate effectively slide in it and form around the bar. My reason for asking is the difficulty of making a suitable 'female' die. I also intend to heat the plate to assist the process. Anyone have any similar experience?
