Takes a 12 bore blank cartridge and is activated by trip wire. Very effective at protecting what's yours.

We reccomend strong fishing wire (Anything above 7lb or 8lb) for the trip wire. Try LE124, LE108 or LE104.

They are legal and you can buy the blanks, however it is true that for certificate holders it isn't a great idea as the police can be so difficult it's generally best to avoid this type of attention.

It's an unwelcome surprise for the scrote entering your property uninvited, if you've forced the door on a workshop at the bottom of someone's garden your maybe expecting to hear an alarm sound, not a loud bang, a foot long flame and smoke!
Hopefully it would scare the crap out of the intruder, it did me and I knew what it was.
Plus it lets us know in the house that something is amiss and sets off the dogs.
If your a FAC holder and worried about repercussions then don't use one but for the majority of the population who aren't a FAC holder it's a cheap and effective solution which is what the OP was looking for.

There are better things than alarm mines as regards security these days. Someone said its not 1951? Well up here its a bit more like 1930 at times firearms are just another tool if so19 (which are actually a specialist terrorist/ paramilitary type section of the police) not a regular armed response unit showed up at every gunshot they would need a massive recruitment drive and get little else done

i have class one firearm cert and the blank firing cartrige on my gate it went off at 1 am one morning half the estate woke up and old bill turned up saying they had a report of someone shooting at them. they were shown my guns locked in cabinet clean and not fired then shown the alarm gun then politely asked them to leave .so call me greengrass and a character out of the beano . i realy dont care what anyone thinks of me . ive been burgled a few times and it aint going to happen again

Unfortunately brightspark, your approach relies on the fact you can do something, so will.

The trouble is if you end up tangled with somebody in the police who doesn't like you, firearms, looking after your property etc. Things can be very, very difficult for certificate holders when the police want to be awkward, and there isn't a great deal that you can do if you end up on the wrong end of things. Even if there isn't a bad motive, like many such organisations they can be horribly slow and inefficient, and rarely knows what the other hand is doing.
You don't want to end up with all your firearms seized for a couple of years while they 'investigate' - yes, it can and does happen.

the last person that did try to rob us i put in hospital and was also locked up as well

as he came knocking as i answered the door i was greeted by a person balaclavered up and gloved up and brandishing a claw hammer above there head with the comment im going to rob you

i just allowed him in the front door where he couldnt swing that claw hammer then a fight ensured after a bit i recognised his voice

he left with broken fingers a bloody nose and arrested by the police at the property of the house he was damn lucky i didnt use the claw hammer back at him though the thought hadnt crossed my mind at the moment of threatening him with his own hammer and he would have got it at that

oh yeah the idiot even tried to get me done with common assault upon him for defending my home against him as the police told me and accusing me of a nasty name which he was told dosnt exist and no record of it either

he refused to go for his court appointments for state of mind so therefore got jail time for it and a record of violent robbery or theft

i am glad your friend expresses his frustration in court, pity the public can not do the same with out being held in contempt of court, go back up to 2 centuries ago, a great great great uncle of mine was hanged for being with a poacher, another great great great aunt was sentenced to 2 years hard labour for taking a small piece of bread, all they were doing was trying to feed the family, (published in the paper of the day) so how the hell did we get so soft with today`s criminal`s that do far far worse things.
