Tool donations.

Has anyone donated old tools to charity?
I've got some duplicate hand tools (electrical, plumbing, builders etc) that aren't needed and are too good to bin but not worth much money so rather than throwing them away I want to give them to a decent charity. Are there any worthy charities that don't just line the pockets of the directors?

You could stick them on Facebook Marketplace and donate the money. You might be surprised what sells on there, my dad's shifted chipped screwdrivers barely worth keeping as paint stirrers.

Sadly, that maybe a sign of the times where mechanical skills are not as valued as they once were. The days when people many would fettle their own mowers, bikes, cars or whatever, are probably past.

I looked at the website of a charity which sends out used tools to third world countries and they were very emphatic that they only wanted stuff that was in good condition, so emphatic that I thought that they would probably be grumpy if I sent them the stuff I use on an everyday basis, so I gave them a miss! I often buy rough-looking old tools in junk shops and quite enjoy restoring them. Anything Made in Sheffield is always welcome.

I have ,3 sons.no tool will be safe again here.

Yuo see charity sales crop up on ebay but its still the hassle of selling And no one wanting to spend anything.

I have never heard of men in sheds or tools without boarders, i am going to go check those out now.

When my Dad passed away i ended up with too many duplicate & redundant tools, the local Mens shed was setiing up at the time & were happy to take them. A good cause.
When i worked at the college we got shot of hundreds of out of date D&T & engineering books & they went to Africa, usally they just get skipped.

Trying to clear out my step-dad's workshop at the moment. Lots of old farm hand tools, axes, pitchforks, billhooks etc. He kept all of it in really good nick.

yes local to me , they send tools abroad to countries that still need and use hand tools, a long standing charity .

He probably didn't know what they were especially as the didn't come with a usb type connector.
