I suppose the alternative is to buy or make a cheap leather apron (i'll catch and skin a couple of wild sofas) and add pockets/pouches and loops to it as needed.

And these turned up in the abandoned house at the end of the street, this morning.

I have used and still use a "nail bag" for fixings. Can get a tape measure - claw hammer and an impact driver into it - up a ladder.

I usually just let my clothes get filthy and full of holes (Then carry on wearing them anyway ) but Adam Savage posted this a couple of days ago and I'm half tempted to get some canvas and give it a go. Mum's just got a new sewing machine too so it would be a nice excuse to play with new toys (Or claim her old one as my own ).
