You can get auto darkening googles, I have a pair I use for gas welding and cutting. They are adjustable.

As others have said, lots of light. A 500W halogen, or 50W LED floodlight, a metre or so from the workpiece will make a huge difference. Or try doing the welding outside in broad daylight, if it's feasible.

I used to use a car headlight run off a battery when I started arc welding back in 70's
