Strange the old salt glaze is 6" at the toilet, always reduced to 4" ID
You could just use a multiquick pan connector as long as it sits into the pipe ,
Expanding foam the joint and fill with a rapid setting mortar

Its even worse than that...lol i managed to get up and take a couple of photos.
No wonder no one could get my description ....its different to what i thought now i have taken the mortar of the toilet pipe..lol

just roll a sausage of it wrap it round the joint to seal then fill with mortar . its 2 expensive to completely fill with putty and wont give a hard flat finish at floor level

Do you have room to fit a multiquick to the pan spigot to aid later removal and provide some flexibility and cement the multiquick to the earthenware pipe socket.

I dont think so but as i grabbed one from screwfix last week i will be checking that option.
I was happy to grab a 4 quid container of putty linked by brightspark. But he has now suggested its too expensive to fill and it won't provide a smooth flat finish.
I dont have any mortar mix yet so i need to buy that anyway.
I feel like i would like i would like to fill the gap with putty and give it a week to get a hard skin and then cover with gloss paint.
But it sounds like that builders mate tub looks bigger than it is..

don't forget its none setting and if you filled with any type of putty it wont skin off and harden for weeks before paining

Most downstairs WCs used to be S trap with hole in the floor. Most new WCs are P trap, with outlet at rear; simple with new plastics. S traps need some rope around the outlet to stop stuff going down the sewer. Then pack up with putty and leave for at least 3 days. Should be able to paint if you want to.
That's not 6" salt glaze if the toilet spigot is the same size,
Any straight pan connector will fit inside the salt glaze,
Tool station have loads to choose from ,
Just rapid set mortar around for a neat job
The old toilets used to just have hemp rope to seal around the pan, and mortar the joint,
Paint and putty inside the base sets like granite over time
