Not the end of the world but still bloody annoying. I said I’d capture it on video and now I have.
I asked if the laptop was plugged in due to possible power saving causing slow running or lag issues but just because it's plugged in doesn't mean it can't cause problems.
If you know your way around Windows 10 power settings you can set a higher cpu minimum speed. It looks like you are running the swifty off a usb, there is a power setting for usb but I'm pretty sure if that was the issue you would have a connection error in Mach.
Personally I would be shutting down the computer every time I was finished with the plasma for the day. Laptops are fine and easy, they go to sleep when you have not used for a while or shut the lid but that can cause issues, not just with Mach. I have servo drive software and PLC software on the laptop so I can connect and monitor both the drives and PLCs on my CNC machines. If I just close the lid on the laptop then the next time I try to use them they often don't work properly so I have to reboot, so much better just shutting down after use.
I’ll try and find it when I’m back in front of the laptop. Where would I look? In the Program files or within the SwiftCnc (Mach4) program? You'd need to look at the M12 macro, and try and work out what's causing it to get stuck.
Mach 4 will only be doing what it's programmed to do. It's likely to be something not responding how it should (output not activating/input not switching), which just causes the macro to hang waiting for something to happen. Which would actually mean whoever wrote the macro done a rubbish job, as they should have programmed in timeouts with corresponding error messages to aid with diagnosis, rather than just the machine appear to randomly hang. Or cynically, they done it deliberately so you'd have to rely on (aka pay) their support to fix it.
If you can find a copy of the M12 macro, I'll have a look and see if I can tell you what you need to check.
Laptop is plugged in yes. I’ve got it on the highest performance setting (least battery life).
Yeah couldn’t get a laptop with a LAN port, stupidly swift cut don’t put that in their requirements! I doubt it’s the USB adapter causing any issues because this only happens every so often though lately it’s happening more regularly.
I think I’m going to do a fresh install and see if that solves anything.
