Replacement bodies/distributors are quite pricey and may not be any better, have other faults or need rebuilding.

So turn the old cracked bit off, turn up a ring with a couple of thou interference, press it on and turn to size.

Take a GSX1100 crank from a running engine with no nasty noises or signs of trouble.
You can just fit it, or you can strip it and check it. It wouldn't have been running fine and quiet for much longer.

Usually it's one of two things or a combination of them on these roller bearing cranks, detritus in the oil and/or overrevving.

If the rollers catch a bit of metal either in the oil or fatigued off of the oil hole edge due to overrevving they mash it into almost the same spot. That continues and the damage expands, very much like a pothole on the road with wheels going over it.

The pattern comes from the rollers running across the the pin/journal spreading the damage along their length.

A flat, hard rule from the outset is that I don't provide credit. I've heard all the "loads of work after this one" carrot BS and I'm not interested.

I had a lad referred to me for some welding on his car, parked it in the back garden afterwards as l did not know him.
"Can I pay you next week?"

"Sure, just let me know when you are coming to collect beforehand."

He was back not long after with cash.

This pic shows how that crank damage begins.
That 'pit' is 0.6mm long, but look at the roughness above and below it on the oil hole edge. That roughness is the tiny particles of hardened material just starting to lift (spalling) and then get smashed into the surface by the bearing rollers.
The most likely cause is overrevving with poor quality/old oil.

Oh I want to hear that as soon as possible from the customer, then I can dump them sooner. In each and every case, without exception, that I have heard that phrase it has been a prelude to non payment.

I don't hear it very often to be fair, but when I do I actually find it quite insulting that they think I'm either desperate or stupid enough to fall for it.
