Just a decent thickness, stiff leather will be fine. If you have an old weigh-lifting belt knocking about which you can cannibalise, those are ideal for stuff like that.

Dad thinks I should bore the press thing out to 1 1/2" because he says the leather will contract slightly, what do you think?

The press thing bore should be the dia of the cylinder minus twice the thickness of the leather. Soak the leather in water for a few hours, and then leave it in the press to dry out.

Go on YouTube and search for "making leather cup washers". There's a good tutorial there. Gonna be doing the same thing myself this weekend!

Yeah that's what I meant to say! I was thinking about the plunger but I called it the bore. Knob!

Today I made these:

It's for bleeding hydraulic rim brakes (Magura HS33's to be precise).
There's a 6x1mm thread on one end, a 5mm bit with notches on the other end to tightly fit 4mm aquarium hose and a small hole right through the middle. The body on the second on I made is bigger because I thought it would be easier to hold in the chuck. One of them screws into the master cylinder bleed port and would have a syringe full of brake fluid* on the hose. The other one screws into the bleed port on one of the slave cylinders with the hose in a bottle. When no more bubbles come out of the exit hose then it is properly bleed.

*It should be mineral oil but the peenarse who had it before me filled it with water and as I'm selling it, that's what's going back in.

I do not agree with deliberately making the bike worse because you are selling it.

You do a nice little job, and give yourself another job to do, and then make the bike worse, possibly dangerous.

Water works fine (I used it for over a rear without even knowing) but they're made to use oil. Some people will argue that water's better because it's thinner. If I don't do this then it will be unsafe as it won't have a functioning rear brake.
