That is a strange one for sure. If it helps any I sometimes put a bid on an item such as a vice no one seems interested in. I bid say £30 which is the starting figure.
A few days closer to the auction I may decide to up my limit a bit incase I forgot about it and someone else bids. So I bid say £50.
Then it stays as £30 bid on ebay but says 2no bids took place! So it shows that I bid twice but the price doesn't change unless someone else bids.
My best tactic is to just know my upper limit and watch during the last few seconds and send it! My heart be's racing for certain items which is sad I know but it normally gives a good success rate. A manual version of an auction sniper if you will
