to those with sealey SG18 wax gun

i know several of you have the sg18 wax oil gun or the clones , ive had mine a few years but would like finer control over the output, ideally i dont need anymore than a fine mist like an aerosol can vs it coming out like a firehose , ive fiddled and cant tune it in how i like , lower the pressure and it just stops spraying

wondered who does what ?

Me,i thin down whatever i'm using,whether it wax or paint,but i make my own cocktail of wax and bitumen paint white spirit for cavity's etc, i dont use the normal cavity bullet thing as the hose is a bit flimsy just the angle one but i've pinched the pipe end a little more tighter,up the pressure that gets me a finer mist
I've two of those little hand sprayers the other one is much more of an opening,i ust that for external use(outside the chassis)
Got to agree with you,its a pain tuning these in just right

Heat.

I always set the cans of waxoyl etc into a sink of hot water for 20 mins before use.

i blow the hose out with an airline and leave it on the shelf , best get croc pot from a charity shop and warm the metal pot up , whatever is in there sprays /creeps better when warm

I mix my chassis wax roughly 60/40 with hyd oil, using the 90 deg fitting I can spray pretty mush right up to the edge of something with minimal overspray.
Also run a reg set at 90psi.
Not sure how many turns the trigger stop is set at.
As for storage, I just run the bottle out and put it away, never have any issues, though that might be the oil in the mix helping as it stops it hardening.

try acf 50 ,,, non of that faffing , and it wont catch fire if you ever have to weld on it or near it in the future ,,,, I may have mentioned Im an ACF Fan boy before lol

5lts of tetroseal wax i got from halfords was £20,5 lts of black bitumen paint £25 plus white spirit goes a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way

ive recently started with the acf50 too early to say that much , not sure i like using where theres any wear n tear , for sheltered places im all for it , can mist the external bits with a mini spray gun so it goes a fair way

like say an engine bay , all the alloy bits fester up over winter so spray it down with acf50 , if you want it looking sharp again a quick going over with degreaser and a hose gets it back to normal - vs you would never get all the waxoly off

a liter of acf will do a whole car ,,,, twice if your careful , it doesn't need to go on until it drips out , its a nano coating , but even then its not cheap ,, even I will admit that .

I have to admit I have started using ACF50 everywhere and I cannot say I have had any rust issues in the last couple years now, I even have the missus using it on all the window locks and catches.

do you think there's some active rust /corrosion fighting ingredients , id assumed its just a oily barrier that hangs on well...same effect as engine oil etc but nicer to use and be around

just looking around , the same maker of acf50 do a thicker maritime version called corrosion block , anyone tried that?

The trigger is two stage - air then pressurised stuff from pot - so I just pull to the first stage to clear the tube.

I then empty the pot, put it back together and blow again to clear the internals.

I lent one of mine to a mate who pulled it apart to clean it - and lost one of the seals. Spent ages finding and buying a spare set . . . then found they come with a spare set in the box when I checked the box for something. In close to 20 yrs use, that's the only problem - my mate losing a seal from it.

When I have finished with mine, I put it down somewhere and leave it. Next time I need it, I spend at least half an hour trying to clean it with thinners.

My lance seems different to what is supplied now, it has a smaller concentric inner which terminates near the nozzle. Running at about 100 psi, it sprays a fine mist.

I do thin the product (Bilt Hamber S50) if it has thickened, and use more white spirit if its colder, but I never attempt it during the winter. Always best to do on a hot day.

What's your long term results like with ACF?.

I am still on the fence with it really as it doesn't seem to "stick" like thicker coatings.

Mulling over putting some in my pressure pot to treat the inner sills on my Golf, but once the ACF is on there nothing else will stick to it.

It is nice to use as you say and doesn't stink!.
