Titanium welding

hey,

My boss at work is sticking me on a titanium welding course. I have no idea how to think about it.

I can weld stainless and mild useing Tig Mig And MMA but never touched titanium.

My question is, is titanium any diffrent to welding stainless (TIG) ? I know aly is a lot diffrent, is titanium the same ?

Ti is looooovely to weld and pretty easy if everything is clean and well shielded. Pretty similar to stainless but with one noticable difference... the wire has a tendancy to 'stick' to the weldpool, especially at low amperage and/or if you catch the edge of the pool. It kinda feels like you're poking some steel wire at a magnet if/when this happens and when it catches you by surprise the first time you can tend to pull the wire back too hard and out of the gas shield. Or not hard enough and make a bigger mess.

Fieldres on youtube has some videos of Ti pipe welds, plenty of arc shots. Might be worth watching.

Were are you going on this course and who's running it?

Did you not find that you had to have trailling gas shields,and even weld inside a "Bubble"
