Tig welding titanium rods anyone???
How much are they bloody expensive i guess is there a good all round spec only want to do occasional small exhaust repair
Welding Titanium, even a small job, can be a nightmare. Joint cleanlines is absolutely critical, perhaps more so than any other material, and additionally must be fully shielded during and after welding, this means setting up a purge system for even the smallest job. Above about 500deg C Titanium will become contaminated unless completely protected by the gas shield, this includes the heat affected zone (HAZ). The inert gas shield must also remain in place until the weld has cooled. Failure to fully shield will result in severe embrittlement of both the weld filler and parent metal. Preparation should be done with tools kept only for Titanium to avoid contamination.
