did however read quite an in depth book on it a while ago, apparently the use of cheaper rivets on the midships playing led to them becoming brittle and shearing with the impact of the berg.

The rivets has bean discounted now, they tested only 30. But They have done test on rivets and found out if they have bean subjected to prolonged cold temperature they become brittle. They then subjected to a shearing action when the plates were distorted by the iceberg.
Not as shearing action as was believed for a long time.
Cameron mentioned it in his Discovery show on the ship.

Part of the theory discussed was that the Titanic didn't slow down when they were warned of bergs because they were shovelling the burning coal into the boilers to get rid of it, the other option would have been to dump the burning coal but that risked the public embarrassment of the Titanic running out of coal mid Atlantic.

15 minutes in and the only new information is the "Undiscovered Photos"
Quick Google and the album has providence in being sold. The new bit is First time on TV.

The coal strike ended 3 days before Titanic sailed from Southampton, Titanic would of bean bunkered in Belfast. Then toped up at ports
White star had vast reserves of coal, enough to re fill the titanic.
Crew changing, the stokers and blow deck crew would be "Short Hauls" and would not take on longer trips.
Life boats, the carried more than the Board of Trade deemed necessary.
In other words the programme was rehashing of old information.
I learnt nothing new.
Next it will be the famous swop of The Titanic and Olympic were swooped.

they said they sped up to keep momentum as slowing down then speeding up again would have taken more coal then they had reserves for and would have ran out, also I doubt they had and way of dumping the coal as I would imagine they only ever expected to burn it and so no facility to dump it

The book I read stated that the white star line owner was heard to be ordering the captain to fire the extra boiler, and that if he didn't he wouldn't captain another boat
