guys
can anyone help im wanting to learn
how to tig titainum tubing and plates only small gage bits.
i looking for a course in or close to hereford
(england) can anyone help???

Do have much experience with TIG or do you usually braze steel frames?
Ti isn't really so different to welding stainless*, it's just extremely fussy about cleanliness and argon coverage. Get those two right and it's nice stuff to weld (not so nice from a machining/shaping/cold working POV), fairly obviously it's an expensive material to make mistakes with


* most noticable difference is the 'sticky' nature of the weldpool... it's kinda like there's a small magnet stuck to the end of the filler wire, especially if you catch the edges of the weldpool

Titanium is often welded in a purge chamber (a cabinet filled with argon), to save all the bother of properly getting all areas of the weld oxygen free. converted blast cabinets are ther favourite.

Titanium welding is also very fussy as to the colour of the HAZ zone. See vid below.

If you can get any titanium welding experience then great, but it might be an expensive do if you are paying.

If you havent had any ally or stainless welding then I'd do that first.

if you want some practice material many bike (standard) exhaust downpipes are Ti and can be got very cheap on the bay of fleas.

You need Paul G to enter the fray. I think he's done a reasonable amount of Ti tig, he had a diffuser for gas that "followed" the torch to ensure post weld gas coverage.

I designed and modelled the fixture for that
All Laser cut from 3mm 316.
The whole job was done at Caged Laser, there were 3 partners, Caged, Ariel and Reynolds (For the tubing)
