I managed to get tips coming out of my tack welds today
Funny old things - the tack looks great and then suddenly a pointy bit energes (a surprisingly long time after welding stops).
It is to do with not purging the gas line. If the gas has been switched off for more than a few minutes the gas line gets filled with air up to the solenoid. The very first couple of tack welds will be shielded by a mix or gas and air. Way around it if it happens again is to squeeze the trigger for a few seconds before starting welding. That gets the air out of line.
