Hi all.
I bought an ABAC 150 litre compressor second hand off of eBay last year. It was apparently all working and had just been serviced. Does a full service on a compressor REALLY just involve fitting a new, cheap pressure gauge? It sat in my shed for a few months before I got round to checking it out, the guy I bought it from really did seem upfront and I didn`t question his description of it.
So, after firing it up and it burning out the thermal cut out switch I got on YouTube and various forums, learned all I could about the workings of compressors and replaced the pressure switch, the piston valves and plates, moisture drain valve, oil, gaskets and stripped, cleaned and lubed the thing within an inch of it`s life!
Was running it this weekend and have noticed that if left pressured up, over the space of a week it will lose much of the pressure. Got the faithful atomiser with water and fairy liquid, (never used the method of leak detection and by heck it`s good!) and spritzed around. Big bubbles where the regulator connects the pressure switch so re-PTFE and tightened and no more leak.
More worrying, there was a very small amount, more like cuckoo spit that bubbles, around the collar at the end of the compressor where the outlet is. Must be extremely small but could it get worse, and, is it something to worry about?
What would be the best way to proceed? I have a Clarke 130TE which I bought a couple of weeks ago and have NO welding experience. Would JB Weld, Milliput or some other epoxy be a better idea?
Left hand side "nipple" on the end dome is where it`s at, around the weld that fixes the collar to the receiver:
Thanks for looking.
