That is what I call straight talking. He reccomends aluminium.
Somebody else has said £850 each in bronze.

We shall where we end up. My guess is the desk droid asking me to it will run away screaming when she gets a price.

I find the commissioning game an interesting process even if it leads nowhere.

Why bother trying to cast it all when you've never done it before and there are foundries all over the place who do it all day long. Practice and experiment in your own time, for a professional job, get it done right.

Its not expensive, I can recommend Sandawana castings near Oxford, but there are probably others closer to you.

tin price

I worked in a large non ferrous scrap yard for a few years, I never seen any pure tin at all, and they bought all sorts of weird and wonderful metals as well as the usual coppers and brasses, I know pewter was saved for the tin content, as well as large white metal bearings.
There is someone on ebay selling a 1kg ingot 99.9% tin for £88.00.
So it is an expensive casting or a very small casting.
The seller on ebay is marketing it as an investment.

There was a spell of home cast lead pound coins round here a few years back, painted gold. I was impressed with the initiative. Somehow I doubt it was really worth the effort.

I used to work in a Foundry making Steel castings. We used the lost wax process to make golf clubs. We also used centrifugal methods to produce aero engine parts, mainly casings.
Be very carefu, both processes are very dangerous. If youre going to use a Tin alloy it wont be so bad because the temperatures are lower. Remember that pouring molten metal onto a damp mould will generate steam and the volume difference is staggering. Its enough to cause an explosion like reaction and spew the molten metal back out of the mould.
We used to spin at 3000 revs so you can imagine the inherent danger in that. Just think of your spin dryer full of molten metal.
We also used polystyrene as a mould. The molten metal would volatalise it. Similar to the LW but less accurate.

All Im saying is be careful

PCW.....we never used Plaster of Paris. Do you think it will stand the heat?

It is used in casting gold fillings so I should say it is OK , I have used P/P to cast melted carburettors to make a new table support for a very old combi bandsaw/linisher and sanding plate.

I let it dry for three days by the side of our wood burner ( winter time ) and then gently played a gas blow lamp on the P/P to run the wax out.
The centrufluge was a bike wheel in a vice set in my old workmate and an electric motor off a vacuum pressing on the tyre .

The support part was made as a shoe cast with reservioir and balanced with an equal weight plus the metal allowance secured diametrically , it was a case of a quick pour of the molten metal into the reservior out in the coal shed and flick the switch on in the wash house next door for a few seconds and let it sort itself out.
