Hi,
I'd be complaining to everyone I could about that. If you don't take any money off them then they have no right to say it's a write-off. It's a 'third-party' bump and should remain un-registered.
As for paying a fee, I've bought several cars from the salvage auctions and always got the V5 from DVLA without any extra fee or any additional checks. They'll check vehicles if they think there's something changed, ie, the engine isn't the original or it's two cars stitched together. I believe they also choose cars at random for checks though.
Otherwise it's a standard MOT to get it on the road.
As with my wife's car, to be fair to any potential buyer I'll be taking photos before I do the work and tell them, but in our case the car has been written off and it'll be recorded as such.
Regards
Peter
We had rear bumper on Vitara smashed by uninsured driver, insurance co. decides to write it off so we decide not to claim and repair it ourselves, annoying thing is insurance company has put it on a database and we have to pay £38 for a vehicle identity check to get it removed grrr![]()
