Timber flooring?

Any good ideas for cheap timber flooring? It’s for the nice area of my workshop. Don’t want concrete or tiles as too cold when not heated.

or 3mm hardwood ply fully glued onto a base of 18mm osb with staggered joints.

depends on substrate I guess?

if you have concrete down, then 11mm carpet underlay and 15mm ply might work - t+g edges with a router? or 2x 9mm ply with staggered joints.

if it's going on joists, you'll need scaffolding boards, or 30mm chipboard, at least as a substrate.

Going on concrete in one area and over tiles/concrete in the other so no strength required to span joists.

2 layers of 3mm ply with staggered joints.
6-10mm carpet underlay underneath.
route some grooves if you want it to look like planks.

Tanalised tiling battens laid on damp proof course at 400mm centres.
Use laser to shim level in both directions.
'Bathroom' standard T&G chipboard.

25mm insulation optional - but nice.

scaffold boards shr.ink by quite a bit....mine have shrunk more than 10mm so I now have gaps....I put DPC underneath so its not a problem....filling the gaps is a PITA so I havent bothered.....If you seal them they seem to shrink more.......they also shrink even if you allow to dry for months.......maybe if you kept them indoors for years they wouldnt

I purchased a lot if used scaffold planks to use as shuttering for £4.oo each. Being kiln dried and straight I would consider them as good or preferable to some other materials for shop flooring. If visual appearance is important, then you can overlay with whatever suits your purpose.
