Just as well I sold the Zafiera......
That's gonna bugger a lot of drivers who can only keep their cars going because they've had to remove those poxy things!
Wouldn't be too bad if the manufactures made a system that worked for more than 3 years.

Just found out that mines been removed (catalyst too seemingly). Looks like whoever did it has done some kind of bodgy DIY remap rather than get it done properly. Given that it's a 53 plate 307 estate I don't know if it's going to be worth fixing or not
Don't think I'll be buying another diesel.

One of the retired guys I bell ring with has just bought a brand new VW Golf Diesel.
He does less than 3000 miles a year, and its rare that a journey is over 5 miles, I can forsee a multitude of problems.

Unless the MOT includes a method of testing the particulate emissions how would the garage know the DPF hasn't just had the innards removed?
A mate of mine has a golf with a blocked DPF so the garage did exactly that.

Why in the wide world of sports did he buy a diesel? He'd be better off buying anything petrol. For that pattern of usage I'd opt for a nice Rolls Royce Shadow and spend the money saved filling it with fuel. Diesels have never made any sense for short distances/low annual miles, doubly so since the advent of DPFs etc.

It will be interesting as to how we are supposed to see inside the PDF
Even with them removed a modern warm diesel that has had a decent run will walk the current smoke test
Diesels are inherently dirty things
Trying to clean them up is like stopping a horse from dropping manure on the road

My very average and very middle aged neighbour had his dpf gutted and his car mapped to ignore it, as even after a wallet hurting trip to the main dealers his car would go into limp mode after 60mph or if you sat in it for too long

Until they bring out a scrappage scheme where I can swap mine for it’s modern equivalent without me paying any money then I will keep it, if I could afford a brand new car/van I’d have one

Funny story about that adblue stuff, a farmer friend of mine bought a new tractor (16 plate) he liked it so mutch he bought another the next year (17 plate), exact same spec.

The only difference being the newer one has adblue and it uses something like 5 gallon of diesel more per acre plowing than the older one, plus the adblue.

So tell me how that can be better for the environment?

cars arent fit for purpose , all these gadgets and bodges to make them pass the tests then trouble for life once its rolled off the forecourt

another forum i go on nissan want 4500 to repair the dpf system on a 12 month old nissan , car makers should be made to make these parts affordable and an easy swap

Exactly that, "You can have this diesel today but if you want the petrol version you'll have to wait 6 weeks".

And what about all the covers/fairings which hide many components underneath a car, they won't be allowed to remove them for checking DPFs etc.

Other option el gov foots the bill and whacks the cost of an MOT up to £120 or more to pay for it...

I always love it when people mention the gubbermint footing the bill, they don't have any money, it's us the tax payer that pays for it all.

Why don't they just implement whatever emission controls they need to clean up London's air (plus other cities) and leave the rest of the country alone ? Where I live the car population is probably about 1 car per 5 acres so no problems what so ever with air quality around here.
