While putting together the experimental drive for my powered bead roller, i had a need to weld an a series crank timing sprocket to a steel adaptor I was going to make. Now, I wasn't expecting a miracle, being that the sprocket might have been sinter. Anyway, all that happened was a zap, then nothing. I tried and tried, ac and dc, nothing. At one point I thought my tig had died. I dug out an older sprocket, and it tigged fine.
What's going on here then, I would have expected some melting, bubling or something?
