tig wont fire up.

new 160ac/dc butters welder,wont arc up when on,the hf works but no arc,there is no power on the lcd meter,the torch is in the negative and earth in the positive,and the switch is on ac and on tig,there is power and when you touch the work piece the hf just jumps but nothing gets hot or melts.
what have i done wrong,or is there a fault on the machine,its brand new.

If it wernt for the lcd being blank id say it was something as silly as a very poor earth!
If the display is blank though, i would think it could be a machine fault....?

should the display come on as soon as there is power to the machine,should it be illuminated.

I'm afraid it's because it's a Butters (Chinese import!), you should have gone for a Portamig!!

Sorry for overloading you guys with Portamig tonight! but I can't stress enough YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!! The Butters Inverter TIG you are talking about is a re-branded Chinese machine. Get a PROPER Custom Built, British set with QUALITY construction & FULL after sales support.

it came with 2year warranty so ill just take it back and they must sort it out.

Yes you should, DEFINATELY a machine fault if the LCD is not working & no arc (although just double check the torch connections).

Yeh but home users cant afford or justify those prices. OK if you make your living out of welding but for most of us the price counts.

You would have paid not far off for the Butters?? (Portamig £985 all in).
Anyway, that is not your problem, your problem is you have bought a Butters & you are having a problem with it. Which dealer did you buy it from? I'm sure you won't be left high & dry,
