TIG welding in a wooden shed

Anyone use a wooden shed to do your welding, specifically TIG welding?. If so, do you use any specific fire retardant paint/materials?. I'm guessing plaster board would be a good shout.

Why the worry? It's not like mig that fires off balls of red hot metal everywhere.
Tig is very neat and controlled.

I weld all processes in a block and wooden shed, I just have an extinguisher always close at hand.

I have done arc and MIG in many a wooden shed and they all survived, a bit of common sense with what is lying around and some after welding checks worked for me.

I've done arc and mig in wooden sheds...unless you are using the shed wall to hang your steel in to weld I wouldn't worry...

I mig,arc,braze and plasma cut in my wooden shack with a wooden floor to,thats also with a big wood burner for the winter months,bit of common sense,when your finished for the day spend the extra 5-10 mins looking around and sniffing for that burning smell

It won't be a problem so long as you ain't welding on the floor. Its a common mans place to have his welder in a shed. Just take a little care and hang back for a few minutes afterwards before locking the door. Wood is surprisingly hard to get going from sparks and tig is by far the least risky. You'll be fine.

Tig should be fine, as no sparks or hot molten metal.
You obviously haven't seen the photos of a man tig welding laying on his back in his front room have you.

I have foam tiles on my wooden shed floor, laid before I decided to get into welding . That's why I got myself set up to try TIG, keeping MIG & MMA for outside when the weather is suitable.

No problem at all with the TIG, as said I just have a fire extinguisher to hand in case but haven't felt the need to reach for it [yet] - I weld on a steel top.

I quite often use wood as a form of putting nicely finished metal on before its welded. The last thing I want to do is scratch a nice Alu/stainless finish while I'm turning it round in various positions so a nice wooden top soon sorts that.

Most insurance companies stipulate no hot work in the last hour, fire extinguishers etc.

Most household insurance gives you no cover at all for welding unless you disclose the fact you are doing it

I think most guys who have been in the game a while have a reasonable proficiency in not starting fires and also how to put them out - go figure why

All my welding is done in a wooden shed, concrete floor. Just spend a few pounds of a couple of extinguishes for peace of mind.

Interesting, that's something I never considered, I'll have to check my policy.... I do my welding in a detached garage (concrete floored block built), but I think I'll have bigger problems if the garage catches fire and then burns my house down since it's over 50m away.
