I've got some 12% silicone rod and have found it's low melting temperature a particularly useful property when welding difficult or contaminated castings as it welds easily and doesn't require a level of heat which can cause problems when trying to weld with lower percentage silicone or even magnesium bearing rods. Got to be sure the base metal is compatible mind.
