Nah mate, you're right. It's a girl's trick. The best technique is to spit tobacco juice into the weldpool at the last minute. That cools it a beaut and definitely gets rid of the craters.

Just a two or three seconds. Same for sloping down (if you're a girl 
). You're looking to spread the heat at the very end of the weld and avoid the dramatic shrinkage of metal that happens with an abrupt stop of the arc at a single point. So as you finish, back off the pedal and give the torch a little circular motion and if required, a dab of filler to draw the last of the heat. Try it and see what works!

Try it and see what works!anyone? im really convinced my major problem is mobility with the torch. the cable feels as tho it has to much memory(like old school finsing line), but way stiffer. the 3 lines look as tho they are fighting eachother while i move the torch around. Will post pic when I get to my crib.
There are very flexible torch hoses about, CK Worldwide superflex will probably be the easiest for you find although they're far from the only brand out there
If you watch vids of any welders you'll see that many of us either drap the hoses around our neck/over the shoulder (when sat at a bench etc) or wrap 'em around our forearm. Either take the weight off the wrist and make the torch easier to control, the later isn't so easy with cheap nasty stiff hoses
