tig welder problem help!!!! please

sorry to start a new thread but got a problem.....

my new (seconhand) tig ....

tried welding a bit of cast ally first didnt have enough amps etc then tig started messing about like trying to earth down the ceramic and melting that ,

so i tried it on steel and same thing first bit ok and now just crackles and pops and trys to melt the ceramic...

its it likely to be a torch problem as i have a parweld torch on my other tig DC that i could rob but not sure about wiring colours etc

or is it the welder

or is it me.....???

ok i think i have cured it , i think the clamp in torch head was round wrong way i have turned it round and everything seems fine does that make sense?
the top hat part was in the head and now its the split end of clamp is in the torch head,

hope that makes sense does to me lol...

The top hat bit should be at the top with the cap screwed down onto it. I'm not sure which way round you mean.

But it sounds like you've got it sorted though.

Should be the other way around. Soudns like you may be putting them in the wrong end.

on your pic number 14 was the other way round i turned it to same as pic and it seems fine now
i didnt explain it very well lol

funny though the one in tig im try to sell is the other way roudn adn works fine although thats a parweld torch i think

With the collet the split end always points towards the tip.

yeah was the other way seems to work great now well as well as a newbie can use it lol
