Hi Guys

Really could do with some input plz

I am seriously considering a New Lourch T220 with the new I Torch,
I have two opptions in as much as it comes in a 170 amp or a 260 amp rating torch.

I cant for the life of me find any info on these new I torches from Lorch, Not even on there own website.

The welder is a 220 amp tig,

I was thinking of going for the 260 amp @ 8meters.
The new I torch has a lcd display and it can control the main unit through the torch, hence was thinking of the 8 meters.

has any one used the 170 amp and 260 amp torch (even the older type)
Is there a big differance in size.???????????

I could still go with my choice of the i Torch 260 amp @ 8 meters and also get a cheap smaller tig torch for the lighter work (with out the lcd display,any make, does not have to be Lorch)

Langy means normal torch with pedal control, surely you realised that?

If you want info on anything to do with Lorch just ask Matt1968, there's nothing he can't tell you about their machines.

Would rather have pedal than have the amp control on the torch mate, I already have one and the pedal is way better.

Only I am in need of help for the question I asked,

I didnt want to explain this in to much detail, but alas I may have to.

The welder comes with a lorch standard torch worth x amount of money, to up grade now to the i torch would only cost me £80,

even If I was to get the second torch for lesser amps, say £70, thats only £150 and I have two torches,

I am never going to get a Lorch foot controler for that

if i dont get the i torch now for the extra £80, I am never going to buy it out right at a latter date.

You get me :-)

Did I need to explain all that just to ask about the differance between a 160 amp and a 260 amp torch???????????????????

when langly sent his reply, it ment I had to right a hole lot of stuff i find hard to do.

i just felt he didnt listen to what I was asking for, thats all.

Sorry but I'm not buying the dyslexia thing! Dyslexia is word blindness, your post was a poor attempt at sarcasm, as is some of your longer post.

Plenty of people on here claim to be dyslexic and most probably are but they take their time with their replies and compose them properly without trying to upset those who've taken the time to offer their advice.

Langlts sort reply was what turned my simply question into a now argument.

I was trying to be polite and say it was down to my dyslexica, trying to ovide this very thing.

OK. You state you get a standard torch with the set. So the addition of a foot pedal would be a better choice in Langy's opinion (and Mine) than buying another torch, as trying to use a hand amp control on the torch will be far from easy

As for what torch to go for 170 or 260, then this is a no brainer, as the lesser would be no good for over 75% of the machines power.



PS,I'm Both Alpha and Number dyslexic, and have no problem with writing messages on here that everyone can read, without them having to "compensate" Stop been lazy.

by the way I had to write this about 3 times before it made any sense at all, it's not hard. Get used to it

You are mistaken if you belive I am buying the i torch to control the amps with it.

Obviously it depends on the type of work being done but personally i want the smallest, simplest torch possible for a given amperage rating. I'd much rather have to take a few steps (or even climb out of a tube chassis etc) and adjust the machine than struggle to reach a tricky joint due to added bulk from a clever torch

If the majority of work is likely to done stood/sitting at a bench then i don't even want a switch on the torch- foot remote is far easier to use than a torch mounted remote and gives more options on the way the torch is held. When i'm grovelling around on the floor etc i want a simple on/off button that can be fitted to the torch in various different places rather than being tied to a manufacturers idea of the correct way to hold a torch

As said, get in touch with Matt for more info on the torch differences, i would have thought the higher amperage 260 is physically bigger (if it's their 'take' on a wp26 they're huge clunky things to be using for delicate work). The 170 on the other hand probably/maybe won't cope with high amperage AC welding- dunno about the Lorch Binzel torches but it's fairly common to rate torches on their DCEN amperage rather than AC as it looks better, for example a wp17 is often rated at around 150A DCEN but only 115A AC. This is why i (and many others) go water cooled as you can have cake and eat it- small torch that'll cope with 200+ amps AC, runs cooler (air cooled torches can get uncomfortably hot welding with AC) and typically has far more flexible lines/hoses. Only downside to 'em is the cost of (or time making) a water cooler

Thats interesting about the bigger torches.

from what little I do know, the i torch controls a lot of fetures through the torch, programes etc etc.

Only the NEW lorch T220 are capable of running the new i Torch.
It seems a shame no to have it at only an extra £80 over a basic lorch torch.
as said, i could still get a cheaper lighter less amp NONE lorch torch for the tricky jobs.

or would you still say leave it alone and put the £80 towards a foot controler,
£80 wont go a long way though

I biggest problem I see with a fancy torch like that is the environment it's used in. How long before you stood one it.

As for building a pedal, thats OK if you can find out how the one required for your welder works, and that is not easy.I've just paid £260 for a Kemppi pedal. Not happy
