TIG torch compatibility

Hello all,
I've got a unimig welding which uses as 35/50 dinse connector. A Unimig T2 torchology tig torch set has come up for sale at a really good deal. It also has the same connector (35/50).

The torch that was offered from factory for my machine is the 17v 4mcp50 unimig tig torch. This one's duty cycle is 35% @ 150A, whilst the one I'd be looking to get is 35% @ 190A.

Does the connector determine the compatibility, or are values such as duty cycle important to consider. New to TIG welding so forgive me if this is a basic question.

Its quite common for different makes of torch in the same dimensions to have different duty cycles. Duty cycle in simplistic terms is just how much current you can put through it, till you potentially damage it.

So if the connector is the same type then it should be compatible?

Yes the 35/50 connector is the same, the amperage capacity/time ratio is controlled by the design of the torch head/lead/gas pipe to carry the welding current that is different.

Yes, but Id check your figures quoted, is one for AC use, the other DC use, as there very similar numbers to those quoted on the unimig website.
Its not a brand Im familiar with, but in simple torch terms it should be fine, what may be different is any fancy control in the handle, if for example you have amperage control as well as an on off button.

T2 torch and the factory torch both have AC and DC duty cycles listed on the unimig website. The T2 torch does have an interchangeable head (17 or 26) unlike the standard torch. I'll read into what the fancy control is for.

These torches don't use standard consumables. I think the interchangeable head is to facilitate to use of standard consumables so that would make it a 26 type torch with (probably) a 26 type duty cycle.

You need to have a compatible connector for the TIG torch. This is the connector on the ENVY TIG 230 AC/DC, which has a T2 torch.

Note that the control signals are digital not analogue - no pots.
