Morning all. I’m looking for some advice on whether tig or tig brazing would be the recommended method for an upcoming job I have.
Basically I have a sunroof model 205 shell which I am needing to close off the sunroof aperture (competition regs). It’s fairly thin metal in there which others haven’t had much success with welding (mig) up due to distortion. The typical method is to take the entire roof skin off and replaced with a non-sunroof model part but as a first attempt I’d like to look at filling in the hole.
So the question is would you recommend tig welding in a closing panel or would a silicon bronze braze be the preferred route? As the roof skin is actually brazed (oxy fuel?) onto the body from the factory I thought the latter might be the best option.
Note that this job is a long way off for me as I’ve only recently purchased my first tig but if you direct your answers assuming the nugget (me ) can actually Tig it would be appreciated.
Cheers
Kane
