I'm new to Tig and could do with some advice on power settings. The picture shows a 4mm dia chain link I welded to a piece of 8mm bar, I'm reasonably happy with the weld, it's clean and has decent penetration - good enough for the job, anyway.
I set the welder to about 80A, but it seemed to take a fair while to get a decent puddle, and by the time I'd finished the short weld the 8mm bar was bright cherry red. I seemed to have put in a huge amount more heat than necessary.
Should I have set higher amps to get a puddle more quickly, therefore reducing the overall heat input? What sort of power level?
(I cleaned off the galv from the link I welded with acid, so no zinc contamination)
