I have heard about these but never actually used one, don't they feed wire into the weld pool?
To be honest, I can't seen that an experienced professional TIG welder would gain much from one, However, a beginner may find them helpful to achieve neat looking welds early on.

The reason for considering it is purely physical, I can feed a rod through my fingers .....but I suffer from osteo arthritis and the first two joints of my fingers are pretty fooked

so although I can feed it, it is a bit erratic and wobbly, and seeing as I am now moving into SS I need more rod control if I am to keep my welds small and neat, just thought that this might give me that control, one guy at work said ..."at your age why bother stressing yourself out learning" but I have never seen age as a barrier to learning,and I am very passionate about my tig welding and do not want to give up on it, so was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them....

Cant say i have used one either.
I can see how it could ease feeding wire for you. And easy to get a consistant amount of rod in each dab. Just use your index finger i guess.
