I have a Smitweld/ESS Thyrotig 220ac/dc for which I would like to make a pedal.

Connector x7-> x8 is the pedal, and it only needs a pot and one switch.
The switch connected to pins 6 and 7 isn't connected(?)

Should the switch be intergrated in the pot or a separate microswitch?
Can anybody say what diode to use?
I did measure the voltage and it was maximum 12.25 volts, but I still have to figure out the pin numbers on the welder.

switch is normally separate , you hear the click of the micro just as the pedal moves ,,, as for the rest , clever folk will tell you ,,, Im not one of them though , I know the pots are different values for different machines , 10k for ewm from memory

Thanks, value of the pot seems 47k as per diagram, now only the diode I don't know.

Diode won't be anything special. Most likely it's for back emf purposes to help protect the switches from excess arcing as I'm guessing they're switching relays, so something like a 1n4148 would likely be fine.
Or whatever similar you happen to have lying around.
