TIG or Arc welding. Where should a newbie start?

While an ac/dc TIG set will cost plenty of dc sets are not a massive cost. And they support mma also so it's actually two sets.

I actually meant TIG running costs not purchase prices. In comparison to stick or even MIG.

To be fair I have never done the comparison as regards consumables. I doubt there is a lot in it, depending on what your welding. Stainless mma is likely the most expensive, no real knowledge past that though. Mig is always going to win out unless it's bits of this that and the other material wise
