Yes mate the hat went to the bin while the esab hung around for more abuse..
As for now? Who knows what's going on.. Not sure if it's me? My set up or crap steel.. Could be all three I guess..
My tungsten tips needed improvement and I remembered as you said about keeping a seperate grind wheel etc just for them.. Use acetone and flap
wheels too..
I've a esab warrier helmet now.. Adj 1-10..

 Anyway picked up some alloy sheet today and it had a bad time with the TIG, reason was tiny flecks of grinding dust on the surface, even when cut back with a sanding pad the specs (pepper) were deep enough to cause a riot with my tungsten! Just shows you...
