Hello all,
I’m learning to TIG and I’m really struggling with getting a decent colour and shine when I’m on 1.5mm 304 and 316. Can anyone suggest what I’m doing wrong? I get “okay” results on bar stock so my assumption is that it’s just getting too damn hot due to slow travel speed... I have got into the habit of backing up to get my filler dab in, could that be it?
the deets:
Andeli tig-200 dc inverter
40-60 amps (I’ve tried everything in between)
Pre flow 0.5s (experimented up to 2s, no difference)
Post 1.0s (experimented up to 5s, no difference)
8-10 LPM flow rate (I’ve experimented up and down, no change)
Ceri tungsten 1.6mm (clean and sharp)
Fresh cylinder of pureshield argon
gas lens number 10 Pyrex
material 51mm 1.5mm 304 and 316 tube
filler rod 308L and 316L
travel speed approx 60-80 dabs p/min
torch angle I’ve tried everything from 0-45 degrees and same result.
Torch height low enough to stick a lot of tungsten.
aluminium chill bar inside tube and outside around it.
If anyone has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it. At present I can’t increase the travel speed without losing control of the puddle. If I go higher amps it gets too hot. If I go lower amps it takes too long for the puddle to form.
would a smaller cup help?
