TIG DC & Aluminium

Hi!

I'm looking into buying a inverter welder which can do MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA.

Onyl thing is, it can only do TIG DC - I've ben told AC is needed for welding aluminium? Is the result much worse with DC or is it impossible??

TIG is a completely new world to me, sorry if that may sound like a stupid question

I think it would be impossible - you need the AC (or specifically the electrode positive element of the AC) to break up the oxide coating which forms on the aluminium.

Its possible but its so much easier with AC

Dont even contemplate it as you will need much more than you think
