Hi
I'm new on here and relatively new to TIG in general and I'm having a mare with brazing. I've had some mild success welding steels so I'm not totally raw.
I've made a leadscrew nut for a lathe which is a bronze nut with a tapped hole for a brass bolt. For extra strength I thought I would braze the joint. Oh my, I've tried and tried and tried and I just end up with a mess. I've watched videos on youtube where blokes make it look easy and everyone says its straight forward but its not!
The filler just balls up as I try to feed it in which results in either a big blob dropping onto the part or a big lump forms and doesn't spread out. I've read this means there's not enough heat but I've gone as high as 180 amps and it still happens. However at this current the brass bolt starts to spit because of the zinc I assume. My filler is silicon bronze (proper tig stuff)
Please if anyone has any tips I'd be so grateful. I've attached pictures of my latest attempt. This is a dummy part I made for testing my brazing. I've ground it back down so many times...
Thanks!
Dan
