If i remember right, they don't do the W size on the Hobby deal, Y is the biggest?
Dave H. (the other one)
Look at the costs around a W full size too. If it isn’t twice as expensive then it’s a better deal because you get more than twice as much gas.
Yeah that’s the killer then.A big factor is indeed "the big factor".. I'd struggle to load/unload a massive bottle and delivery charges are > £50 I believe, the hobby deal on a smaller bottle includes free collection.
Fillet joints and outside corners are not really a good starting point
Get some runs laid down on flat plate and get the basics nailed then move on to joints.
View attachment 147141 View attachment 147140 Here's where I'm at (if the photo upload works from my phone). Getting some decent runs but still inconsistent with my travel speed, direction of movement and application of filler. Also getting a lot of black craters in the welds and the puddle sometimes doesn't want to move along, is this to do with me trying to move it too fast? Or perhaps something like gas coverage or material contamination?
Or don’t! And rush out to do more harder joints and struggle.Nice to see a improvement between 1st and last. Keep laying them beads down on flat plate till it becomes consistent then move on to a butt joint.

Absolutely. I see lots going wrong there.I am certainly no expert with Tig, especially with regards steel. It does however look to me that they are maybe a bit on the cold side.
You put that in just as I was replying about the other welds. This looks betterThanks Rich, popped out at lunch and bought some fresh filler rods, look what happened!!
Absolutely chuffed. You can see the black crap emerge from the old tack but as soon as I started adding decent filler, pretty smooth sailing. 16swg steel, 1.6mm rods and 75A. Could maybe have done with more amps and faster travel judging by the heat marks?
