I do have a pedal but often I try to back off and then go too far and end up with the puddle getting ‘stuck’

If you back off too far just ease back on...that brief 'off' time will give the weld a chance to cool slightly and if you do go too far down the amps and the puddle freezes, you can slowly ramp up until it melts again.

Practice on scrap for an hour and you will be surprised how much more confident you will be with the pedal

It really is horrible stuff to weld. It doesn’t really flow rather it ‘blobs’. I also get times when the filler just balls up or when I just can’t get the puddle to go where I want and there’s a gap I just can’t fill but I then fear everything getting too hot and rush past it. And then finally when you get a half passable bead down you realise the whole part has distorted and is ruined anyway.

You didn't change your filler rods, like I said in post 11 you need more silicon to get it to wet out. 5356 rods have magnesium in them and are not suited to cast alloy........
