Ok,

Got meself an Esab Tigma 160 (or LTG 160 as it is also called) Tig welder. - The torch has a remote control button taped to the handle. Switches the arc on and off as you would expect.
This is connected to the remote control plug on the front of the machine. If i wanted to use a foot switch to control amps during welding, i would obviously need to plug it into this socket. Will this take over the function of the remote switch as well?

Hey Paul, I'm not very up to speed with ESAB but I think the foot controller is a FC-5C part #0558004234. The foot controller will plug into the panel where the hand controller does. As for the remote switch I'm not sure how ESAB has it set up. On the machines I'm a customed to there is a contact switch on the panel that you set for remote or panel.... with any type of a controller this would be set to remote. Set it to panel for the MMA process or scratch starting. Hope this is helpful.

Yeah, the remote/panel switch is there, and switched to remote. Just wondered if the foot switch would do the work of the hand switch (Simple off/on with mine) as well as varying the amps during welding?

Aye, got that printed off before i bought it cheers, seen the foot pedal, but can't see how it works (Might of course be me being thick)!

Have you tried plugging it in?

Maybe it completely replaces the trigger and current selector, or you use the current selector for max and adjust with the pedal. Does it feel like the pedal has a switch, so it'd click and bring in the gas and you bring up the amps?

Ah. Now i'm being thick inni? You've not got the pedal yet have you... Duh.

The foot pedal will do what the hand control did and more. Press it down a little to start the welder and HF or whatever you have set up, then press some more to increase the amps. Lift off completely to stop the arc.

Hi Welderpaul,it was a long time ago i TIG welded last but from memory the pedal controls the power to the torch treat it like the accelerator on a car, TIG is lovely mate as long as you can get comfortable !

yep malcs on the money, touch the pedal to start the hf further you go the more amps you get have you got A/C on this one?

The pedal I referenced above was from another model by esab, I see they are totally different machines. Nonetheless, as Malcolm has pointed out the pedal should allow you to controll the amps from the lowest setting you achieve with your machine to the max amp you have selected on the panel dial.

Does anyone know if/where i can get a gas solenoid for this machine cos it's b*llocksed. The man at ESAB say no.
