TIG Advice!

HI,

Im thinking of buying a small inverter for tig welding sheet steel and maybe aluminum. Im completely new to TIG so could someone advise me what can and what cannot be welded with them and any info would be appreciated! I was looking at a small 80 amp draper one to start with but am unsure what it will weld and which bits I need!??

Hi Tony, there's many metals that can be welded with the right tig but those little draper ones are DC only no good at all for aluminium. You need an AC/DC machine for alu, a decent one is £1000+ unfortunately .

You'll need an AC/DC machine to weld ally. A DC only machine will weld pretty well anything bar ally and an AC/DC will weld pretty well anything. 80 amps will not get you very far on ally as far as thickness goes but I assume the machine you're referring to is DC only anyway. It steer clear of any Draper machine.
