Who said it can’t last until the expiration date????perhaps you need to change the brand of reg you buy if a £240+ reg can't last until it's expiry date.
It's not as if any of this is new, correct shut down procedures was something that was drummed into me the first day of my apprenticeship 45 years ago and everywhere I've worked since, the end of your shift for inert gases and every time you walk away from the kit for oxy fuel. People don't realise how much gas is in a cylinder, if you dump all the gas out of a 230 bar cylinder it will fill a space approximately equivalent to 230 cylinders, that will easily alter the atmosphere in a confined spaceWho said it can’t last until the expiration date????
Comments like that only make you sound a prat!
My point was it’s a very expensive quality elga reg, I’m going do everything possible to look after it.
I forgot to mention I’m also a qualified gas inspector
Have been for 6 years.
Done a good few inspections but it’s not my full time job. Everyone says their gas equivalent is good and safe and the procedures adopted are correct. The reality is somewhat very different. Everyone will just continue as they are. You included.
It’s what us brits do. Nothing changes till the s### hits the fan.
Then we make big changes.......
It’s just education really. I didn’t know that either but frightening when you think about it. Especially some of these sheds at peoples homes being small and well insulated to keep the heat in.It's not as if any of this is new, correct shut down procedures was something that was drummed into me the first day of my apprenticeship 45 years ago and everywhere I've worked since, the end of your shift for inert gases and every time you walk away from the kit for oxy fuel. You're dead right Richard, I've only had direct involvement in one fatality and that was a guy asphyxiated by argon when he was welding in a tank, they reckoned it only took two breaths to kill the poor guyIt’s just education really. If a bottle releases the contents in side there while your working it sounds to me like it would have no problem filling the place from the ground up.
All I was saying is that I don't do anything to "look after" my regulators and they have always worked fine for me, and they are still working fine when it's time to retire them.Who said it can’t last until the expiration date????

I'm happy that you are looking after your reg, I'm equally fine that happy with how I treat mine and I'm confidant it will continue to work correctly until it's due for replacing. My point was it’s a very expensive quality elga reg, I’m going do everything possible to look after it.
