Throttle body injection/megasquirt

The MPI engine out of a disco has been fitted before, but isn't a simple conversion. If I wanted easy power, I'd just drop a 3.5 or 3.9 efi V8 in, but I'm more interested in seeing what I can do with a 2.25 petrol. I've now just got to start doing research on injector and fuel pump selection. Unfortunately, most the megasquirt forums seem to be for more advanced discussion, where as having never played with it before,I really need a dummies guide to get me started. Oh well...

the 2.25 as long as it has a 5 bearing cranck can actualy make good power. the block is strong as are the internals. the head responds to work, the intake and exhaust are crap in std form so there is much scope for more power, also as it capable of running on stagnet pondwater and th elowest grage petrol avalible is 95 ron you can tweek the compression a fair whack with no disadvantage.

for injectors rough bhp matching works as rule of thumb but as the 2.25 isn't the most efficent get some injectors from soethign with a bit more power than what your hopeing to make. if it was me doing it i'd go for a set out of a 150 bhp vag 1.8T , relativly good injector, its big enough, not to big , and common

I thought I'd post an update on this. I've settled on going for multi point injection, using Bosch 0280 156 154's out of a 2005 onwards 2l Ford. Dirt cheap, easy to find and good flow rate. These will be fitted to the diesel inlet manifold and a Rover K series throttle body fitted. I have just received my microsquirt ECU in the post, so now just need to get it all wired and plumbed. Still a few sensors to buy and I do need to find a vehicle with an externally mounted high pressure fuel pump to rob, as most seem to use in tank pumps these days. The actual engine has now been built, so it should only be a couple of months before it is running.

IF you want to rummage in the knackers yard for stuff, this may help a bit to identify the mud and corrosion-caked things you find under cars:

Bosch K-Jetronic pumps: Body is 60mm diameter, 120 litre/hour at 12v and 5 bar outlet pressure
Bosch L-Jetronic pumps: Body is 52mm diameter, 130 litre/hour at 12v and 3 bar outlet pressure
You may find another small chassis-mount Bosch pump on some vehicles, it was about 40/42mm dia and was rated at 100 litre/hour at 12v, 1.2 bar

Both the K and L pumps had a variety of inlet and outlet connection types, depending on who they were supplying to. Ford always had a 15mm inlet and a range of banjo connections on the outlets. You'll find that (on Fords) the chassis mounted pumps all start disappearing from cars from 1989 onwards in favour of in-tank types.
