three stage push button wanted

I am looking for a two and three stage latching push button.
The two stage push once on twice on then off.
The three stage push once on twice on third on and then off
12v anyone know where to get then thanks

Never seen a standalone switch to do this, but I have the desired effect built into my huge floor tuner. I'll pop the back off it and have a look at how it's being done. I have the suspicion that it will be software controlled.

Me neither - in the computer industry we do this with a spst push button and software!

On the 2nd push do you want the 1st circuit to break, or are all the circuits kept on until the last push in the sequence?

It would be fairly easy to do with a basic programmable relay (mini PLC) costing <£100, probably cheaper if 2nd hand from fleabay

I knew this would be a good topic. I want if for a car wipers and light switch, what I was thinking you mite get something that would have three latches and if you pushed past the first two you would get the three latch if you wanted to get full speed straight away.

I had a rotary switch on my Landrover, turn it past the first stop to get full speed - except the 1st stop was full speed, the idea being you start the wipers at full power to get them going and drop back to slow.

slightly off topic, but it took me ages to work out how to use a rotary switch to operate the windscreen wiper motor for my Herald (with a seperate push button for electric wash/wipe).

windscreen wiper motors are a nightmare due to the parking they have.

I have once seen a push button with three latching states and sets of contacts. It was a press once for common to terminal 1, press again for terminal 2, again for terminal 3 and a fourth time for off. It was in effect a rotary switch that moved round one position every time the button was pushed, by means of a pawl. I can't remember what it was on though - but some sort of test equipment like a signal generator rings a bell. Not quite what you're after but strange custom switches can exist. I'm sure there's a far more intuitive switch solution for your wipers though!

It doesn't look like I'm going to be fit to get it in a push button, maybe if I could get it in a small rotary switch I looked online but the ones I've seen are huge

I use similar with a AT tiny microprocessor and a single spst momentary button so I can have one button but select 1st, 2nd then top gear with each stab of the button, which controls 3 solenoids then keep the button pressed for a much longer duration to reset to off (neutral). The code it runs is up on the build page for my bike. Its even got adjustable debounce.

To do it with a single push-button might be feasible if you use the duration of the press to charge differing values of capacitor which then trigger transistors to fire whatever you need to... a short press being sufficient to activate the first stage but not the second and so on. I haven't given this a lot of thought so don't rip the idea completely to shreds just yet

Ham radio gear used to have ludicrous configurations of rotary/push switches, similar to some oscilloscopes, with two clicky concentric dials and a central potentiometer, itself having an on/off switch AND a push function!
Wiring them up was a nightmare.

As for car wash/wipe, my website has a page devoted to the mysteries of the Lucas 2-speed system used on my TVR and a myriad of other old British cars: the Pektron delay timer is a favourite for dying nowadays but testing it is difficult as it needs to be connected to the wiper motor in order for various timing capacitors to discharge - if you set it up on the bench it just sits and looks at you, even when it's working properly. It's usually just dry electrolytics that kills it though so only a 10 minute job to fix.
